| So You Want To Be A College Drop-Out Millionaire |
|
Damn, college drop-out millionaire has a nice ring to it isn't it? The decision between dropping out versus staying/going to college is probably the most important decision for a young adult who is good at poker. And who are we kidding. Stacking donks and printing of benjamins off the internet is way better than cramming for exams and writing essays. We don't have to listen to a person who's making less than us. I mean, how can that person tell me what to do when my winnings from last night is more than his annual salary? Since money is important and I have a lot of it. Then I am an important person. That's the upside. Now let's go over the downside. Playing poker professisonally is a grind. Sure, you go on heaters and you'll wonder why you didn't drop out sooner. Life is awesome and poker is great. You're on the top of the world and it won't be long until you are crushing 25/50+ games. But when you have 100K hands reak-even stretches or downswing 30+ buy-ins, you will start wondering what is the meaning of life and why are you playing this retarded game. Some of you think you have great bankroll and emotional control. That such a downer won't happen to you. No way. Not with your skills. Here's the honest truth. It will happen to you. It has happened to everyone who is crushing 10/20+. I know I won't be able to convince you. Just think of me when it happens. Playing poker also leads to a very unhealthy lifestyle. You are in your home all day and rarely exercise. Some of you are shaking your head. No way, you have a schedule that you intend to follow. You exercise X number of times per week. You are going to work on your mental game. Chances are you won't. If you don't believe me, Google the internet for poker blogs and exercise. For everyone 100 promises, there's 1 person that carry it out. I know what you're thinking. You're that one person. You also don't get to meet many people because you're too busy clicking buttons on the internet. Why go out and spend money when there's a fish at the table waiting to give you moneys? What this leads to is a very limited social circle and a very awkard way of speaking. Now, you can be that guy who says, fuck it, I am who I am. Either accept me or reject. I got the moneys and the EV. That's true but you're not being very reasonable. If you are socially retarded, it's hard to get along with you. Unless, you are with other socially retards as well. Then it's a party and you can talk about EV all day. But you don't want to live your life that way. You don't want to be grouped in a single category with who you can carry out conversations with. Your life has more meaning than that. One day you'll get married and will have kids. Do you really want your kid to have a socially retarded dad? Think for his sake. But what if the game dies tomorrow since it is already tough. Let me assure you. In any generation, there will be an abundance of retards. Think society as a range. No matter what happens, there will always be those who are at the top of the range, the middle of the range, and the bottom of the range. The retards and degenerates don't dissappear overnight. This might suprise some of you but these same poker retards and degenerates might be successful people in the real world and some are richer than we can imagine. So now. The question is college or no college. You have to be honest with yourself. Do you hate going to college because you are lazy and don't want to go to class? Or do you hate going to college because you want to spend a lot of your time playing poker, improving your game, and make a lot of money? To be great, you need a lot of work ethics. Do you have the discipline to work toward your goal? And if you do have the discipline to work toward your goal, then why don't you have the discipline to go to class? Many can attest that poker is much more fun and less stressful when you are playing while going to college. Because techincally, it's not a job. You are still a student and playing poker on the side. Once you play poker primarily, it can eat up your soul. It's the main reason why higly successful nosebleeds players such as Cole South, David Benefield, and Isaac Baron are now back in school. They realized having a lot of moneys doesn't mean you have a fulfilling life. Many successful online poker professionals agree that it's empty and want to do more with their life. If you make it to this part of the article and your fire for turning pro is hotter than ever, then GO FOR IT! I admire people are aggressive and go for what they want in life. Be that person. Just remember that if you turn pro, do it with all your strength and pour your heart into it. Don't do it half-ass. Because if you do, a few years from now when all your friends acquire the neccessary skills to succeed in life, you'll be wondering why you took that leap of faith. Good luck! Comments (1)

I personally don't go to college because simply it wouldn't make me happy and I don't plan on having a 9 to 5 with a boss, etc but I do realize that the social aspect of it can be super beneficial .
This article made me think, thanks Tri!
